Two Great Reasons to Invest in a Background Check

You may have seen our recent real-life example of a colleague who experienced a significant professional set-back when he chose to not invest in a background check for an employee. Based on positive feedback from the blog article Never Say Never Again, ALIASS is proud to present two more great reasons to invest in a background check.

Investment or Financial Background Checks

Why would you want to conduct an Investment or Financial Background Check? Remember, this is an investment of your hard-earned money. It's important to be certain that your potential investment is going to a legitimate business and/or an honest individual. The complicated world of business leaves you with very limited resources.

There are way too many scam artists out there to simply rely on the information you receive from the business and/or individual. To protect your best interest, you want to have a clear picture of what you are getting into. That is why we recommend conducting an Investment or Financial Background search.

When conducting this type of search, ALIASS would focus on the following key pieces of information:
  • Credit Report (Individual)
  • Criminal History
  • Civil History (Lawsuits)
  • Liens, Judgments & Bankruptcy
  • Credit Report (Business) (If you are investing in a business)
If you are going to loan or invest in an individual or business, keep in mind that you should advise this entity that you will be conducting these types of searches. It is the first step in weeding out any potential scams, and could save you time and resources. In addition, asking the entity to provide releases and critical information, such as Social Security Numbers or Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), shows that you are serious about ensuring that this entity is a legitimate business and an honest individual. Obtaining the internal business documents can be easily manipulated, but you cannot fake the above-mentioned searches.

Pre-Marital Background Checks

Why would you want to conduct a Pre-Marital Background Check on someone with whom you are in a committed relationship? In the past, it was easy to obtain information on a potential spouse. Asking friends and relatives could answer just about anything you wanted to know. Unfortunately, it's not that simple in this day and age. Today, we are such a mobile society that when you meet Mr. or Mrs. Right, you could have no idea of their previous activities. You may be able to find some basic information, but you could never be certain that the information you are getting is accurate. (Take a moment to read our recent article, Are You Dating a Catfish? - there is an entire television series based on individuals who were misled by a partner or spouse!)

If you really want to be informed, conducting a Pre-Marital Background Check will help you make a better decision. Remember, you may spend the rest of your life with this person.

When conducting this type of search, ALIASS would focus on the following key pieces of information:
  • Criminal History
  • Civil History (Lawsuits)
  • Liens, Judgments & Bankruptcy
  • Previous Marriages
  • Previous Divorces
If you are serious about conducting this type of search, keep in mind that most clients feel uncomfortable asking their potential spouse for specific details from their past. Conducting a Nationwide Comprehensive Personal Profile would be an excellent start to the pre-marital search. This will provide you with the answers to many of your questions.

One thing to note is that there is no database for searching marriages and divorces. The profile search described above will uncover where he or she has lived, thereby providing a geographical target to search through local court documentation for any previous marriages and divorces.
